The Yale - Vancouver's home for Rhythm and Blues

Here is the latest news from "The Yale".

Hello friends,

Music history icon Johnny Winter makes a not to be missed appearance at The Yale for two consecutive nights on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 26 and 27. For over 30 years, Winter has been a guitar hero without equal. Signing to Columbia records in 1969, the music giant immediately laid out the blueprint for his fresh take on classic blues, a prime combination for the legions of fans just discovering the genre via the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Deemed rock music’s most respected singer and guitar player, Winter established a link between British blues-rock and American southern rock, constantly shifting between simple country blues in the style of Robert Johnson, to all-out electric slide guitar. His 2004 Grammy Nominated I’M A BLUESMAN with Virgin/EMI, has added to his Texas-sized reputation, pairing with long-time producer Dick Shurman (Robert Cray, Albert Collins and Roy Buchanan), as well as Tom Hambridge (Susan Tedeschi and George Thorogood). Backing him on this CD is Paul Nelson on guitar, Scott Spray on bass, Tony Beardon on drums, as well as guest appearances by Reese Wynans on keyboards and James Montgomery on harmonica. The 13-track collection includes three compositions by Nelson and Spray, including the prison-themed “Shakedown” and the album’s title track “Pack Your Bags,” which Nelson describes as a Johnny Winter biography set to music. Tickets to Johnny Winter are $35 in advance or $38 at the door. Advance ticket sales are available by contacting The Yale at 604.681.9253 or online at http://www.theyale.ca/.
